10.0.0.1: router login and admin page
How to open 10.0.0.1, sign in to your gateway, and fix it when it won't load.
10.0.0.1 is the admin address for many routers and provider gateways, especially Xfinity (Comcast) gateways in the United States. It's part of the 10.x.x.x private range, which larger networks often use because it has room for millions of devices.
Opens your router's admin page if you're connected to a router that uses this address.
How to log in
- Connect to the router's network, either on its Wi-Fi or with a cable. The address only works from inside that network.
- Type
http://10.0.0.1into your browser's address bar, not the search box. - Sign in with the admin username and password. They're usually printed on a label on the router, unless you changed them during setup.
Which routers use 10.0.0.1?
Xfinity gateways are the best-known example. Xfinity encourages customers to manage most settings in the Xfinity app, but the 10.0.0.1 admin page still works on many of its gateways. Some other provider routers and business networks use this address too.
If 10.0.0.1 doesn't load, your router may use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 instead.
The page won't load
- Check you typed it correctly. It's all numbers. A common mistake is typing a lowercase L instead of the number 1.
- Make sure you're on the router's network. It won't work on mobile data or from another location.
- Pause any VPN. Some VPNs block access to devices on your local network.
- Find your router's real address. Your device lists it as "Router", "Gateway", or "Default Gateway". See how on Windows, Mac, iPhone, or Android.
Forgot the password?
If you changed the admin password and can't remember it, you can reset the router to factory settings. Most routers have a small reset button; hold it down with a paperclip for around 10 seconds while the router is on. This erases all your settings, including your Wi-Fi name and password, so you'll need to set it up again.
Keep your router secure
- Change the default admin password to something unique.
- Install firmware updates when the admin page offers them, or turn on automatic updates.
- Use WPA3 or WPA2 security for your Wi-Fi, never an open network.
