Wi-Fi map: find your weak spots

Walk around your home and test the Wi-Fi in each room. See your weak spots on a simple map, with tips to fix them. Free, and saved only on your device.

Where are you right now?

Each room takes about 10 seconds and uses up to about 5 MB of data. Test your rooms within a few minutes of each other, so everything else on your network affects them all equally.

How to use it

  1. Start next to your router. Choose that room, tick The router is in this room, and test.
  2. Walk to each room where you use the internet, especially the ones that feel slow, and test there too.
  3. Read your map. The bars compare every room with your fastest one, and the tips point to what's most likely to help.
  4. Make a change and test again. Move the router or add a mesh point, then retest. Each room shows how much faster or slower it got.

What the results mean

  • Great: close to your fastest room, with quick, steady responses.
  • Good: fine for browsing, video calls, and HD streaming.
  • Weak: much slower than your best room, or too slow or jumpy for smooth video calls.
  • Dead zone: barely connected. Pages time out and video stalls.

Why test room by room?

Your internet plan delivers the same speed to your router wherever you stand. Walls, floors, distance, and other electronics weaken the Wi-Fi between the router and you. So when one room is much slower than another, the difference comes from the Wi-Fi. If every room is slow, the problem is more likely your connection itself, and Fix my internet is the better place to start.

Limits

A browser can't read Wi-Fi signal strength directly, so this measures what the signal does: download speed and response time. The results include your internet connection too, and they change with whatever else is using your network, so test rooms close together in time and repeat any result that surprises you. To save data, each room downloads only a few megabytes, so very fast connections may show less than their full speed. Every room is measured the same way, though, so the comparison between rooms still holds.

Privacy

Room names and results are saved only in this browser. The test exchanges a few megabytes of test data with our server, and nothing about your home is sent.
