Fix my internet

Find out why your internet is slow or unstable. We test your connection, explain what's wrong, and guide you through fixes step by step.

What's going wrong?

Most "slow internet" problems come down to a handful of causes: weak or crowded Wi-Fi, other devices using the connection, a VPN adding distance, DNS trouble, or a provider issue. This troubleshooter measures your connection, finds the most likely cause, and gives you fixes in the order most likely to help. Run it again after each fix to see what changed.

What we measure

  • Response time: how long a tiny request takes to reach our server and come back. Lower is better; under 50 ms feels instant.
  • Steadiness (jitter): how much response times jump around. High jitter causes frozen calls and lag spikes even on fast plans.
  • Download and upload speed: a short sample to our nearest server. It's an estimate, not a full speed test.
  • DNS: whether public DNS services are reachable, so website names can be looked up.

The most common fixes

  1. Restart your router and modem. It clears overloaded memory and stuck connections.
  2. Get closer to the router, or use a cable. Walls, floors, and distance weaken Wi-Fi more than most people expect.
  3. Find what else is using the internet. Updates, backups, and 4K streams can crowd out everything else.
  4. Check your VPN. A distant VPN server adds delay; choose one closer to you.
  5. Call your provider if a cable connection is still far below your plan. Your network diary gives you a record to show them.
