Gmail is Google's email service. When Gmail stops loading, the question is always the same: is the service down for everyone, or is the problem on your side? The check above visits mail.google.com right now from Cloudflare's network, so you get an answer in a few seconds.

If Gmail is up but not working for you

Open Gmail in a private window. If it loads there, a browser extension or old stored data is the cause.
Check whether other Google sites such as Search load. If they fail too, the problem is your connection or DNS, not Gmail.
If you can sign in but mail isn't arriving, check that your Google storage isn't full.
Still stuck? Run our connection troubleshooter. It measures your connection and points to the most likely cause.

Official status

Gmail publishes its own status page: Google Workspace Status Dashboard. If it lists an incident, that confirms the problem is on Gmail's side.

Common questions

Is Gmail down for everyone or just me?

Our check visits mail.google.com from a Cloudflare server, far away from your connection. If it answers there but not for you, the problem is most likely your Wi-Fi, internet provider, DNS, VPN, or the app. If it doesn't answer there either, Gmail is probably down for many people. A single check can be wrong, so try again in a minute before you decide.

Why is Gmail not working?

The usual causes are Gmail having a real outage or maintenance, your Wi-Fi or internet provider, a DNS problem, a VPN or ad blocker, an out-of-date app or browser, or the wrong date and time on your device. Work through the steps above from the easiest to the hardest.

What does "up, but blocking checks" mean?

Some large sites refuse requests that come from servers rather than ordinary browsers. If the check says the site responded but blocked it, the site is almost certainly working, and the check just can't see more than that.

Where is the official Gmail status page?

Gmail publishes one: Google Workspace Status Dashboard. It is the best place to see confirmed incidents and updates.
