ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED: how to fix it

ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED means your connection switched while a page loaded. Learn what causes it, from VPNs to Wi-Fi hopping, and how to stop it.

In short: your device's network connection changed while the page was loading, so the browser stopped. Run our troubleshooter to test your connection.

What it means

Something changed your network setup mid-load: your device switched Wi-Fi networks, a VPN connected or disconnected, or a network adapter reset. The browser cancels the load to stay safe.

Common causes

  • A VPN connecting, disconnecting, or switching servers.
  • Your device hopping between Wi-Fi networks or bands.
  • An unstable connection that keeps dropping and reconnecting.
  • Virtual network adapters from VPN or virtualization software.

How to fix it

  1. Reload the page. One-off changes fix themselves.
  2. Stop your VPN from switching servers automatically, or pause it.
  3. Forget Wi-Fi networks you don't use so your device stops hopping between them.
  4. Restart your router and modem. Unplug both for 30 seconds, plug in the modem first, then the router.
  5. Check your connection's steadiness with our troubleshooter.

Still stuck? Our "Fix my internet" troubleshooter measures your connection and suggests the next step.
